Naledi High School, the Soweto school that produced luminaries including ex-North West premier Popo Molefe and director general in the Presidency Frank Chikane, is set for a revival.

The revival is to be defined when the school's former students - many of whom are today leading lights in politics, business, education and other social spheres - meet at a reunion at the school in Naledi tomorrow at 11am.

Naledi is a part of Sowetan's corporate social responsibility portfolio under the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation.

The initiative is backed financially and logistically by Hollard as a part of the insurance company's community-outreach project.

Naledi is best known as one of the launching pads of the 1976 students' protests against the imposition of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction by the National Party regime.

One of Naledi High School's former students was Khotso Seatlholo. Together with Tsietsi Mashinini, he led pupils in protest marches that sparked the nationwide student revolt. The protests got international attention when police opened fire on unarmed youths on June 16 1976. Hector Pieterson was the first of many children to die.
