Man lives in collapsing house
A Limpopo man is living in a dilapidated hut after two of his huts were washed away by heavy rains in 2000.
Daniel Reckson Maswanganyi of Mukhomi village, outside Malamulele, claims he has been "fighting" with the local municipality to give him an RDP house for the past eight years.
"I have not been employed since I was retrenched in Carletonville 23 years ago," he said.
"I live on handouts from my neighbours and meals when there are parties or funerals.
"Sometimes I get piece jobs and earn something."
One of his neighbours, Breda Mavasa, told Sowetan that they try their best to make sure that Maswanganyi gets some food, but are worried about where he is staying because it is not safe.
"We tried to engage the local councillors to assist him but they kept making him sign forms when he applied for an RDP house on three previous occasions," Chauke said.
Traditional leader Richard Mukhomi said he would send his induna to check where Maswanganyi is staying and try and make sure that those in authority help him get assistance.
Thulamela municipality manager Makonde Mathivha said the municipality depended on the provincial department of housing for houses and would not be able to assist the man in the meantime.
