amajita get ideal warmup
National Under-20 coach Serame Letsoaka regards the yearly Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championship as a perfect tournament to prepare for the continental youth showpiece in Rwanda in January.
Amajita will play Botswana in a two-legged tie in September and October and the winner will go to Rwanda.
Letsoaka stressed that playing against strong countries like Zambia and Lesotho, who are in their group for the Cosafa tournament, will further strengthen his charges for the African U-20 Youth Championship.
The South Africans, who were seeded at yesterday's draw for the Cosafa event, were also pitted against Seychelles.
The Cosafa tourney takes place in Kimberley, Northern Cape from November 28 to December 7.
Amajita are determined to win in Kimberley after the Young Warriors of Zimbabwe dethroned them with an embarrassing 3-0 drubbing in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, last year.
But the score was not a true reflection of that game because Amajita dominated Zimbabwe but failed to score.
"It will be a totally new game in Kimberley this time round and we are ready to recapture our title," said Letsoaka yesterday.
He added: "Lesotho have improved tremendously and what makes them even more composed is that they camp every weekend irrespective of whether they have an immediate tournament or not. It is different with us because we only assemble when we have a tourney."
The launch and draw in Johannesburg yesterday was attended by Safa chief executive Raymond Hack, the sponsors' group executive Nkosinathi Chonco, Cosafa's executive secretary Ashford Mamelodi, and Northern Cape Premier Dipuo Peters, among others.
The full draw:
South Africa, Lesotho, Zambia and Seychelles.
Namibia, Swaziland and Angola.
Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi and Mauritius.
Madagascar, Comores and Mozambique.
