Police are investigating whether two pupils aged 15 and 18 who were arrested after they were spotted by a robbery victim are part of a gang operating at Emaphupheni, Daveyton.
Etwatwa police spokesman Mabote Motopi said: "On June 16 at about 8pm, a 49-year-old man was walking along Guinea Street in Emaphupheni when he was approached by five unknown males who pointed a firearm at him and robbed him of R520, bank cards, passport, ID and cellphone.
"On Monday the victim was at Parks Shop when he identified two youths as some of the people who had robbed him in June.
"They ran away when they saw him, but he followed them and saw where they lived. He later called the police, who arrested the two and another suspect."
Police also recovered a pistol.
Five other suspects - two 17-year-olds, two 18-year-olds and a 21-year-old man - were also arrested in connection with the robbing of two women of R800 and two cellphones last week.
"We want to establish if these robberies are linked because they were committed in the same vicinity. We will also try to find out if the two groups are members of a gang that is trying to establish its operations in the area," Motopi said.
