Mxolisi Gumede, deputy chairman of the Gauteng Promoters Association (GPA), reported yesterday that their meeting with stakeholders last weekend was fruitful.
Gumede said the presence of representatives from the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the Lotto was a cherry on top.
"The purpose was to forge lines of communication with the respective structures," he said.
"They assisted a great deal with information they shared. The one [representative] from SARS cleared some issues relating to tax while the other one from Lotto explained to the managers about the availability of funds that can be utilised to modernise their gyms to prevent boxers flocking to the suburban gyms.
"We also discussed the long-pending case of suspended Boxing SA manager Krish Naidoo. The sentiments shared were that Naidoo must be brought back rather than being paid for picking his nose.
"That decision is informed by the fact that a tribunal has already found the man not guilty of most of the charges that were levelled against him.
"Clearly on those that he was found guilty, a sanction must have been meted out. Why, therefore, pay the man when he is sitting at home doing nothing?"
Gumede said they were fortunate that the Boxing SA chairman had indicated his board's ambition to meet with the GPA. But he was disappointed with the no-show by referees and judges.
