The 12 suspended Mangosuthu University of Technology students will know their fate today.
The students were suspended in April after they were accused of orchestrating an "unlawful" strike at the university.
Six of the suspended students will also appear in the Umlazi magistrate's court today on charges of public violence and causing damage to property.
The students were part of more than 100 students who were arrested at the university during the "illegal strike".
The six suspects include student representative council (SRC) deputy president Ntokozo Zwane. The suspended students are all members of the SRC.
Some of them are also office bearers of the South African Democratic Students Movement (Sadesmo), which is aligned to the Inkatha Freedom Party.
During the month-long strike, the SRC demanded better resources and the deployment of more lecturers.
The students have been on suspension since then.
The disciplinary committee is expected to pronounce its verdict today.
The SRC has since the suspension of the other members been functioning with only three members.
The university management has been accused of crucifying the student leaders to get rid of the IFP on campus.
The students had been openly supported by the Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade during the protests
Shortly after the students were suspended, parents from T-section in Umlazi held a massive protest outside the university, demanding the immediate resignation of vice-chancellor Aaron "Mseshi" Ndlovu.
Last month it was rumoured that Ndlovu had resigned from the university, with claims abounding that the university was bankrupt.
But Sanele Zondi, spokesman for the university, dismissed the claims as lies fabricated to drag the name of the university down.
