Dickson Makeke, the man who has been "missing" for seven months, has been spotted alive.
Makeke, a former employee of the Greater Sekhukhune district municipality (GSDM), jumped into a raging river and vanished on January 18 to escape the wrath of a taxi owner with whose wife he was allegedly caught in bed in GaMampuru village near Steelpoort.
Since then his family and colleagues have been speculating whether he is dead or alive.
Last month reports did the rounds that Makeke had been spotted at a friend's funeral in GaSelala village outside Burgersfort.
On Thursday he was allegedly spotted by a former colleague at a bank in Groblersdal.
Makeke has reportedly lost weight and has begged those he has been in contact with not to reveal his whereabouts.
He was also allegedly seen at the Department of Home Affairs in the same town the following day, where he asked another official who saw him not to tell people of his whereabouts.
"It is strange that Makeke prefers to do things privately, while knowing the whole country wants to know his whereabouts," said the source, who asked not to be named.
"Makeke must know that not only is his family concerned about him, but everybody who has been reading stories about him wants to know what happened to him."
GSDM spokesman Selby Makgotho said yesterday Makeke's benefits would only be released once they got proof that he was dead, or when he came back to claim them.
"But Makeke is no longer our employee because we terminated his services in February," Makgotho said.
