Harmony High School from Virginia in Free State are the 2008 champions of the lucrative Kay Motsepe Cup.

They beat Meadowlands High School from Soweto 3-2 in a gruelling match in Mamelodi on Saturday.

Despite a chilly day, the community of Mamelodi came in large numbers to support the event and were not disappointed as both teams dished out fantastic soccer throughout.

Harmony scored in the fifth minute through Lerato Manzine from a Fanyana Bucibo corner-kick (1-0).

Bucibo increased the margin to 2-0 on 10 minutes, beating Meadowlands goalie Tebogo Tshabalala with a low shot.

With no response from the Soweto lads, striker Manzine completed his brace with a fierce strike to give Harmony a comfortable 3-0 cushion.

Meadowlands pulled one back through Thabang Kekana on 34 minutes (3-1).

Two minutes after recess, Meadowlands reduced the deficit to 3-2 with a classic goal from midfielder Bongani Sondhlane.

The winners collected R250000, gold medals and a trophy and two more awards when Teboho Mosoeu and Pitso Mokoena scooped the best goalkeeper and coach of the tournament respectively.

The Gautengers received R200000 and silver medals, while striker Kekana won the top goalscorer award and teammate Sondhlane the best player award.

Sundowns boss Patrice Motsepe was presented with a special award by the SA Schools Football Association.
