Die-hard supporters of Moroka Swallows need to flap their wings if they want to see their side taking part in the annual Telkom Charity Cup this year.

This one-day event will be staged at Mmabatho Stadium in Mafikeng, North West, on August 2.

Swallows have been in sixth spot since voting lines opened a month ago and there is no hope that they will make it for the prestigious event.

But one of the side's directors, Sipho Xulu, is confident they will make it to the top four.

"We're aware that we started badly but this does not mean we're out of the running," Xulu said.

"We're going to soldier on to the last drop of our blood.

"In the past the tournament used to have some upsets and we're going to do likewise because we're determined to see our followers giving us that much-needed support.

"We're going to start voting in earnest from Monday and surprise some teams in the league.

"Swallows are a completely different team this time and everything is possible," he said.

Xulu added that the event was an opportunity for the team to showcase their new players. That is why he is determined to see them in this four-team one-day tournament.

Kaizer Chiefs, who were in fifth position last week, have amassed a lot of votes and now lead the chart.

They have garnered 29258 votes. Second are Sundowns with 28046, Orlando Pirates are third with 24120, AmaZulu fourth with 21107, Bloemfontein Celtic collected 20797 and Swallows are sixth with a paltry 1778 votes.
