There will be cause for celebration among soccer pundits of the small village of Tshifulanani, outside Thohoyandou, when two local teams battle it out for the Vhembe Mayoral Soccer Cup tomorrow.

The main battle will be between Khumbe Poultry Farms and Makhitha Yellow Birds at 3pm.

The day-long tournament is organised by Vhembe district municipality.

The young and old in the area will be treated to a feast of soccer matches, traditional music and other entertainment.

The programme will start at 9am with an Under-12 match followed by a ladies' match between Bongi Stars and Ma-Indis at 11am.

A Safa Invitation side will then battle it out with a Vhembe District Municipality XI at 1pm.

"All systems have been put in place to cater for this eagerly awaited event," Ndivhuwo Mamathuba, municipal spokesman said yesterday.

"Members of the community will be able to interact with the executive mayor, Philemon Salaza Mdaka.

"Soccer fanatics will also be entertained by Chief Tshifulanani's Tshikona and Malende traditional dancers, while local DJs will also be on board especially for the youth."

There will be prize money for all eight participating men's teams, from R10 000 for the champions to R1 500 for the last four teams. It is the same with the women, with the top prize R3000 and the lowest R1000.
