The driver said the brakes failed.
The bus was travelling from Verena in Mpumalanga to Marabastad in Pretoria when the accident occurred in Church Street, Arcadia, at about 7,30am.
The driver, Michael Lekala, 48, said:
"To avoid hitting the cars at the robot I decided to crash it into the lamp post and save lives."
Most of the injured were treated at the Tshwane District Hospital.
The badly hurt lady was taken to the Pretoria Academic Hospital for treatment. - McKeed Kotlolo
