ASTV lifts the covers on Amabinneplaas

South African soccer lovers have heard and read so much about Amabinneplaas, the Safa development team, but none have seen them in action so far.

This is the team made up of locally based and mostly National First Division players. They are earmarked and are being prepared for the bigger international stage while serving as a nursery for the senior national team, Bafana Bafana.

The curiosity around Amabinneplaas will be put to rest this weekend as the African Soccer Television show brings highlights of their international friendly against neighbouring Lesotho's Likoena.

The show is on SABC1 Sport's Laduma programme which is screened on Sundays.

Amabinneplaas played two games in the Mountain Kingdom, winning the first 1-0 and the second 3-0 with highlights from that one being flighted.

While in Lesotho the ASTV show also covered the Buddie Lesotho League game in which Correctional Services scraped to a narrow 3-2 victory over Lioli FC in an exciting encounter.

With Angola hosting the 2010 Afcon the continent's focus is also on them. A special package of the 2008 Girabola League is on the menu showing ASA's 2-0 pasting of local giants InterClube and Santos FC's goalless draw away at Kaboscorp.

As if that was not enough, more highlights from Angolan football include the Luanda derby in which Petro Luanda just edged Benfica Luanda 2-1; Bravos Maki's win over Sagrada by the same scoreline; 1 de Maio's 1-0 victory over GD Huila; and Petro Huambo's 2-0 humiliation at home by 1 d Agosto.

The show wraps up with more highlights from the 2010 Afcon-World Cup qualifiers.
