It is expected that most National First Division (NFD) clubs will be forced into the transfer market as a number of their stars head for greener pastures in the Premiership.
University of Pretoria (AmaTuks), known for their development of players, are the biggest losers with three players off to Premiership clubs. Davis Nkausu is off to SuperSport United, Clifford Mulenga to Bidvest Wits and Marc van Heerden to AmaZulu.
AmaTuks seem to produce more Premiership players than any other team in the division.
Some of the players who left them in the past seasons include Mamelodi Sundowns' Lerato Chabangu and Robyn Johannes; SuperSport United's Rudi Isaacs, Bongani Khumalo, Sam Ndlovu, Dumisani Masilela and George Maluleka; with Sifiso Sithole at Free State Stars and Theo Shiluvana at AmaZulu. Bongi Macala and Sibusiso Hadebe joined Jomo Cosmos from Tuks.
"Our basic aim is to develop players to the elite league, although we also have an ambition to feature in the Premiership in future," Graham Oosthuis, Tuks' manager, said yesterday.
In other moves Thembalethu Moses has left FC Cape Town to join Sundowns, while Ikapa Sporting's Kurt Lentjies has also joined the Chloorkop side.
Mpumalanga Black Aces have lost Gordon Gilbert and Thabang Rooi to Kaizer Chiefs.
Another serious exodus of players is at Winners Park, with Morgan Shivambu joining Moroka Swallows, Phikolethu Speelman joining Bidvest Wits, while Godfrey Nobula and Sbusiso Nhlapo are likely to join Black Aces.
Premiership teams are also eyeing Dynamos' Klas Galane, the Witbank Spurs duo of Roy Mohamutsi and Victor Ngunyule, and FC AK's Mzondi Mthombeni.
