Selaelo Selota is over the moon after a music company in Craighall Park, Johannesburg, offered to replace his two stolen guitars.
Music Connection heard of Selota's loss through Sowetan.
"I am very grateful to Music Connection," Selota said. "This is not the first time that they have helped me. In the past they gave me a guitar amplifier, bass amplifier and seven-piece drum kit.
"No two guitars are the same. You develop a relationship with your guitar. In terms of rands and cents, my new guitars cost more than the stolen ones."
Selota, who had expressed concern to Sowetan last Friday about his family's safety, said though he had reported the burglary and subsequent harassment by the alleged thieves to the Sandton police, nothing had been done.
But when he thanked Sowetan at the Birchwood Hotel after a performance, Simon Chabangu, an administration secretary in Minister of Security and Safety Charles Nqakula's office, offered to follow up his case.
"We are not investigators as such but we follow up on complaints lodged by members of the public who are dissatisfied with the manner in which their cases are handled," Chabangu said.
After Chabangu's intervention there are now police patrols in Selota's area. But this has not stopped the cheeky thieves from ringing the bell at Selota's house at night. They ran away as soon as they saw movement in the house.
"On Friday they were in the yard," he said. "We heard them telling each other not to make a noise."
Director Alan Billings of the Sandton police station said he was not aware of Selota's plight. After hearing about it from Sowetan he promised to help the Selota family by following the matter up.
