The organisers of the Vhembe Mayoral soccer tournament say supporters will be treated to electrifying entertainment during the finals at Tshifulani stadium near Thohoyandou on Saturday.

The event is the brainchild of the Vhembe district municipality.

The tournament is aimed at rewarding the eight local teams for a job well done throughout the season.

"We intend to move this tourney to a higher level next year, wherein our focus will be on fundraising for charity organisations within the municipality," Ndivhuwo Mamathuba, the municipality's spokesman, told Sowetan yesterday.

"We will also invite Absa Premiership teams to ensure that we get more supporters and ultimately more money for the needy communities."

Mamathuba promised top entertainment, "backed by Chief Tshifulanani, who will send his Tshikona and Malende traditional dancers, with local DJs on board, to render their service".

The day's programme will start at 9am with a Under-12 match followed by the ladies final between Bongi Stars and Ma-Indis at 11am.

A Safa Invitation XI will battle it out with a Vhembe District Municipality XI at 1pm.

The final between Khumbe Poultry Farms and Makhitha Yellow Birds will be staged at 3pm.
