Two elderly twin sisters burnt to death in an inferno that gutted the shack in which they were sleeping in Mpumalanga on Monday morning.

Johanna Mahlangu and her sister Elinah Monamogale, both 79, of Katjibane in Mpumalanga died after the shack they were sleeping in caught fire in the early hours of Monday.

Constable Vusi Ntuli of Vaalbank police yesterday confirmed the incident. He said police had opened an inquest docket into the deaths.

Sources told Sowetan that the twin sisters had allegedly prepared a fire on a piece of corrugated iron outside their shack. They later moved it into their shack to warm themselves.
