Communications gurus throughout Africa are expected to converge on Johannesburg at the end of this month to discuss the benefits of the 2010 World Cup finals.

Communications gurus throughout Africa are expected to converge on Johannesburg at the end of this month to discuss the benefits of the 2010 World Cup finals.

The third yearly 2010 National Communication Partnership Conference will take place in Sandton on July 29 and 30.

Unlike the previous two conferences, which were one-day events, this one will run over two days so that all the spin-offs of the tournament are covered.

The first day of the conference will have a South African focus where delegates will be introduced to the global South African campaign for the World Cup.

On the second day, the conference will deal with the partnership's communication framework for the World Cup, with the focus on the African continent.

There will also be presentations by public relations experts on the issues relating to maximising the marketing of Africa using the World Cup as a vehicle.

Nkenke Kekana, chairman of the partnership, said the theme of the conference will be "Africa's time has come - mobilising for 2010 and beyond".

Kekana will discuss the massive global audience that will be attracted by the money-spinning quadrennial soccer spectacle.

Top brass from the 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee, including Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordaan, will be some of the speakers.
