Newly promoted Free State First Division side Carara Kicks are for sale for R15 million, according to owner Motebang Mokoena.

Mokoena, a rising Free State businessman, is the son of prominent South African soccer administrator Mike "Ho Jewa Batho" Mokoena.

Motebang's father is also the chairman of Free State Stars.

Kicks were promoted to the First Division after doing well at the Vodacom League playoffs in North West two months ago.

Sowetan has learnt that MEC for housing in Free State, Joe Mafereka, will be unveiled as the new owner of the club today.

Mafereka and Mokoena junior are expected to meet in Bethlehem sometime today where the deal will be signed and sealed.

Mokoena could not be reached for comment, but Mafereka has confirmed that the two parties have been engaged in discussions.

"We are on the verge of concluding a deal. In fact, we will be having a final meeting this week where the deal will be concluded," Mafereka said.

"I can't comment further on this matter, we will be able to make a proper announcement once the deal has been finalised."

Sowetan has learnt that Kicks will relocate from QwaQwa to Welkom, which is where the popular politician was born and bred.

Mafereka used to play at Continental FC in Welkom before defecting to politics. He is the 2010 World Cup political head in the Free State.

Welkom has always been known for producing great players and administrators, including Jacob Mokhasi, John Tlale, Simba Marumo and Dick Nkuna.

In the past, they used to have soccer giants like Welkom Real Hearts and Welkom Stars, clubs where Nkuna was highly involved as a co-director.

Welkom Stars have since been renamed Welkom Real Hearts following a request by the community to Nkuna, who is also the head of boxing in the province.
