The Gauteng provincial government has also started recruiting volunteers for next year's Confederations Cup from June 14 to 28.

The Gauteng provincial government has also started recruiting volunteers for next year's Confederations Cup from June 14 to 28.

They have opened access centres in various communities where residents can register as volunteers without having to go long distances.

Gauteng's Ellis Park and Loftus are two of the five stadiums that the Local Organising Committee has chosen to host the tournament.

The other three venues are Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth, Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Phokeng and Free State Stadium in Mangaung.

In Gauteng, the plan is to recruit between 800 to 1000 volunteers who will assist in information technology, media, accreditation, spectator services, transport, hospitality, logistics and administration.

Eligibility for the volunteer programme is open to South Africans who will be 18 years and older on or before March 1 next year.

The volunteers, who will receive a stipend by the LOC, will include professionals, youth, students, the unemployed, people with disabilities and retired people.
