A brave driver who helped police nab nine armed robbers said he did not know how he was going to get a new car.

Baba Dobson was speaking to Sowetan outside the Westonaria magistrate's court in West Rand yesterday.

He drove into the vehicle in which part of the gang were fleeing, forcing it to hit a tree before it overturned.

The nine men, aged between 30 and 41, appeared before magistrate Renier de Bruin.

They allegedly robbed a cash-in-transit vehicle of an undisclosed amount of money in Westonaria on Sunday.

"My car was written off. Will the police help me to get new wheels?" he asked.

The suspects are expected to appear in court again next Wednesday.
