Hardly a day after Sowetan highlighted the plight of a Limpopo woman who gave birth to a disabled baby, Kamogelo, hundreds of Good Samaritans are coming forward to shower the little baby with presents.

The mother of the baby, Nthabiseng Mabetha could not hide her joy yesterday when local businessmen and pastors from various churches handed her a mountain of presents in sympathy with her predicament.

Mabetha, 27, a former Limpopo model, thanked Sowetan for the article highlighting her baby's plight.

She said her cellphone had also been inundated with calls from Good Samaritans who wanted to help the family and the baby.

"I have already received clothing worth R5000 from Evelina Khosa, one of the pastors from N'wamitwa village outside Tzaneen.

"Several businessmen have expressed their sincere sympathy to me and promised to come to my aid this week," said Mabeta.

But she said her paramount concern was to get artificial limbs for the baby, who was born with only one arm and one leg.

"Each time I look at the baby I see a precious present from God," said the distraught mother.

"But I sometimes cry when I think that the baby will never walk and never have the use of its one arm if my plea for assistance does not bear fruit."

Pastor Martha Mkansi of the Relela Emmanuels Church in Tzaneen advised the mother to shower the baby with love and care.

A prominent medical doctor in Limpopo, Eva Lebelo, said yesterday that the baby might have suffered from a congenital abnormality before birth.

She advised Mabetha to consult the local hospital to provide the child with artificial limbs for free.
