The two hired hitmen arrested last week in connection with the murder of a senior KwaZulu-Natal government employee will remain behind bars until next week.

The suspects, both 26years old, were arrested in Ngwelezane on Thursday after eluding police for two weeks.

Musa Madide and Lucky Mthembu are accused of murdering Thembinkosi Dlamini, 37.

Yesterday the suspects appeared in the Empangeni magistrate's court and were denied bail. They will appear again at the same court next Monday for bail applications.

At the time of their arrest social development MEC Meshack Radebe promised that seven more people, including three government employees, would be arrested for Dlamini's murder.

The police have confirmed that only two suspects had been arrested and that they were still investigating.

Dlamini, who was employed as a senior manager at the provincial department of social development offices in Empangeni, was shot seven times in his office at Ngwelezane on June 11.

He had been moved there to rid the office of corruption. Radebe had earlier described the Ngwelezane office as the second most corrupt in the province.

Dlamini was known for ridding the department's Umlazi office of fraud and corruption. But he could not finish his job at Ngwelezane since he was shot dead at point-blank range and in broad daylight.

The suspects were arrested in their hide-out in the area two weeks after the murder.
