A leopard is on the loose on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast and residents have been warned to stay indoors and be cautious, police said yesterday.

Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said several people had spotted the leopard in Mvutshini at the weekend. It was believed to have escaped from the Hluhluwe Game Reserve.

"Four goats have been killed by the leopard in the area and we are concerned about the people," said Mdletshe. No human fatalities had been reported.

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife spokesman Maureen Zimu said she would be looking into the matter shortly and would comment later. - Sapa
