Senaoane Gunners surged into the last 16 of the yearly Clinix Sticks Morewa Soccer Challenge after pipping Super Spurs 1-0 at Dlamini Grounds in Soweto at the weekend.

Defender Yiyo Muthwa scored the solitary goal from a 25m free-kick in the 15th minute.

The opening minutes of the match were physical and matters spilled over when Gunners striker Thulani Moshoeshoe and Spurs defender Alfred Tsambo were involved in a cock-fight in the 13th minute. Both players were sent off.

Mike Ntombela, Gunners' chairman, said most of their players come from the Under-20 development team.

"Our aim is to afford the youngsters an opportunity to prove themselves in a senior and competitive contest," he said yesterday.

The weekend games have produced the two top teams from each of the eight groups, that will compete in the last 16 at different venues on Sunday.

The qualifiers are: Zola Real Glasgow, Orlando Real Stars, Mofolo BT Stars, Chiawelo Juventus; Educational Investment, White City Transco United, Movers, Vine, OPS Shining Stars, Gunners, Orlando Winter Roses, Netcare Atalanta, Aeroton Arsenal, Maranatha Real Hearts, Antea United, CWJ Hungry Stars.
