The Modjadji Bursary Trust has received a R110000 boost from the Limpopo department of education.
The new trust, established by the Modjadji royal council, is aimed at providing financial assistance to students from disadvantaged communities in the Bolobedu area.
The trust wants to ensure that as many people as possible get educated so that they can plough back what they have learnt into the community, provincial education MEC Aaron Motsoaledi said.
Modjadji was speaking at a quarterly workshop attended by headmen from 132 villages in Bolobedu at the weekend.
The workshop was held at the offices of the traditional authority at Khehlakoni village near Modjadjiskloof.
Motsoaledi urged headmen to encourage their subjects to study since the department had money available for them to further their studies up to tertiary level.
The council decided to set up the trust fund to assist students who were unable to cope with the high tuition fees at institutions of higher learning.
The department's contribution follows a call made by the acting Bolobedu regent Mpapatla Modjadji at a community imbizo held at Mokwakwaila two months ago.
Modjadji appealed to companies in Bolobedu to contribute to the trust to build a brighter future for the children.
Meanwhile, about 67 students from around Bolobedu have been selected for navy interviews in September.
Those selected will be employed in the South African Navy, senior navy officials said recently when they visited the Modjadji royal house.
