The South African Football Association's national coordinators' workshop that took place at the weekend was a resounding success, with 48 regions out of 52 arriving in Johannesburg.
The workshop was meant to afford regions a chance to voice their challenges, said Balebetse Monnakgotla, Safa's acting director of competitions.
The delegates also undertook to find activities that will allow development soccer to fit into the country's national agenda.
The delegates were addressed by 2010 Local Organising Committee chief executive Danny Jordaan, who encouraged them to get involved in volunteer programmes, starting with the Confederations Cup next year and the World Cup later.
Monnakgotla also said that the Metropolitan League has been tightened this season and will kick off on August 1 to allow the national playoffs to take place in Durban in March next year.
"The programme will be much shorter while we break for the Confederations Cup," Monnakgotla said.
"We also decided to have age restrictions in our league where, for instance, in the second phase we have asked teams to field only Under-19 players."
Metropolitan sponsorship manager Bushy Nale said the coordinators' concerns were noted and understood .
