The 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee board starts its two-day meeting, today where the main topic will be preparations for the 2009 Confederations Cup.

The meeting will discuss reports on the state of the five venues from the technical committee, which also includes representatives from Fifa.

The five venues to be used for the Confederations Cup are Nelson Mandela Bay, Free State, Ellis Park, Royal Bafokeng and Ellis Park.

As usual, the meeting will be attended by a high-powered Fifa delegation led by general secretary Jerome Valcke.

Valcke and his entourage were expected in the country yesterday and were to be briefed by LOC chiefs Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordaan.

The Fifa second in command is also expected to use the board to once more reiterate Fifa's support for South Africa in the hosting of the 2010 World Cup.

Other issues that will be discussed include the progress reports on transport, road infrastructure, security, health as well as the appointments of venue managers. The board is also likely to discuss the labour disputes affecting the construction of Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo and Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.

l Valcke will meet selected local journalists on Wednesday to deal with a variety of issues relating to Fifa and the 2010 World Cup.
