Letta Kgosana, 70, was more than a mother to her children, she was a soldier at heart.
Mama Letta, as she was affectionately known in Kagiso, died on June 24 at Krugersdorp Hospital after a long illness.
"Mama Letta was a loving, generous and humorous person," said her children Thabo and Dipuo.
Kgosana was involved in many community projects. A teacher by profession, she was a member of Tuata and a chorister in the Johannesburg Teachers Choir. She started teaching in Klipgat from 1960 to 1965. In 1966 she moved to Diepkloof, Soweto, where she taught at Ipolokeng Primary School until she retired in 1997.
She was a church member of the UCKG in Kagiso, where she served as an assistant, a leader of the prayer group which prayed for the sick and a leader of the funeral group. She was a member of Sizakanani Project, where pensioners knitted and sewed.
She was born on April 1 1938 and obtained her junior certificate at Hebron High School and teaching qualification at Hebron College, respectively. She enrolled at Vista for a secondary school teaching diploma.
Kgosana is survived by two children, three grandchildren and four sisters. Her funeral is tomorrow at Kagiso Cemetery. The service starts at 7am.
