Minnows Tiyani Shining Stars and Thomo Dynaros insist that they will upset Premiership bigwigs Mamelodi Sundowns and league champions SuperSport United in the Mopani Executive Mayor's Charity Cup tournament at the weekend.

The charity-driven event will be staged at NkowaNkowa stadium, outside Tzaneen on Saturday starting from 9am.

The municipality managed to generate more than R500 000 that benefitted more than 15 charity organisations last year.

"We hope to generate more money this year based on the presence of the two champions of the Nedbank Cup and the Absa Premiership respectively," Tim Maake, municipal manager said yesterday.

Tzaneen-based Shining Stars, who play Sundowns at 9am in the opening match, say they will not go into this encounter like sheep going into the lion's den.

"Our boys are ready to cause a major surprise by beating the Nedbank Cup champions. The spirit is very high," Tiyani Mushwana, the team's managing director, said.

Sundowns spokesman Mahlatse Mphahlele said they will not undermine Shining Stars because of their amateur status.

"This tourney will give our technical team enough time to parade the new recruits and also to try new combinations for the next season," Mphahlele said.

Dynaros will battle it out with United at 11am. For Dynaros Saturday's match will be a learning curve for the boys and an opportunity to showcase their skills.

"We are fully prepared for this match and it may come as no surprise if we beat United and play in the finals," Dynaros spokesman Noel Mashimbye told Sowetan.

United say they will take the matches very serious as it will be the right time to integrate new and old players.

"We are really thinking of playing Sundowns in the finals wherein we will redeem our image tarnished by Platinum Stars in the recent Eastern Cape Premier's Cup," David Skosana, United's spokesman said.

The final will start at 3.30pm.

The four teams will visit Letaba, Kgapane and Tzaneen hospitals, and NkowaNkowa, Lenyenye and Tzaneen shopping complexes tomorrow afternoon.
