LOC ignores threats

The 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee is not worried about the widely reported threats that the tournament will be moved from South Africa.

The 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee is not worried about the widely reported threats that the tournament will be moved from South Africa.

This comes after Fifa president Sepp Blatter, pictured, told an Austrian television station that the World Cup will only be moved in the event of a natural catastrophe. It is not the first time the influential Fifa president has made this statement.

LOC chairman Irvin Khoza said they were disappointed that many people were not focusing on good things happening around South Africa's preparations.

"The Fifa president is continuously asked a question about the 2010 World Cup and he says if there's an earthquake obviously there will be a plan B.

"South Africans must not panic, the World Cup is still coming here. It is not only with 2010, Fifa have always had Plan Bs with other previous competitions."

Khoza said they will have a board meeting at Safa House on July 8 where the issue regarding South Africa's preparations will also be dealt with.

As usual, the meeting will also be attended by Jerome Valcke, Fifa general secretary.
