This is a joint project between the provincial department of sports, arts, culture and recreation and the department of education. A total of R1,1 million has been allocated for this project.
Barbara Creecy, MEC for sports, arts, culture and recreation, said the project will also include a mini World Cup where pupils will compete among themselves.
The participants will also be afforded the opportunity to play against their peers globally, which will help in exposing them to international soccer.
"A core group of 36 young players will enjoy personal attention from football legends to enable them to participate in interprovincial tournaments in and outside the country," said Creecy. "This is part of our efforts to identify and develop talent for future football events and improve readiness to play professional football.
"As part of the legacies of the 2010 Fifa World Cup, we have identified club development as key to sport development in general and football development in particular.
"For the current financial year we have allocated R1,9 million for legacy club development as we move closer to the Confederations Cup in 2009 and World Cup in 2010."
