Karateka from KwaZulu-Natal dominated the yearly Shin Kyokushinkai tournament at Umlazi Indoor Sport Centre in Durban at the weekend.

The tournament was staged by Shin Kyokushinkai Karate Organisation (Midori).

Isaac "African Tiger" Mashinini said that he was impressed by the standard of the fighters who showed aggression throughout.

He added that most of the bouts ended in knockouts as combatants showed no respect for each other.

"The successful tournament shows that the Africa World Cup selection tournament set for this year in the country will be highly contested,'' said Mashinini yesterday.

Winners: Boys - under-30kg: Karabo Diale (North West); U-40kg: Sibonelo Mncube (KwaZulu-Natal); U-50kg: Sibusiso Ndlela (KZN); U-55kg: Sakhile Ngcobo (KZN); U-60kg: Benedict Khumalo (KZN); U-70kg: Nhlanhla Mathebula (KZN); U-80kg: Sam Rampai (NW); Open: Sephamandla Ngubane (KZN).
