The construction of a Football for Hope centre in Alexandra will help fast-track the development of the sport in the sprawling township.
Moss Selolo, Alexandra Football Association president, said they were honoured that Fifa saw fit to set up one of the 20 centres on the continent in their area.
Situated at Three Square Grounds in the township, the centre in Alexandra is one of five that will be built in South Africa.
"We have been briefed about this project. It's such a wonderful thing because our children will be trained by qualified coaches to become better players.
"I can't comment further because Fifa are the ones who will make an announcement in a few months about it, we don't even know how it's going to operate," said Selolo.
As part of the legacy projects for the 2010 World Cup finals, Fifa is building Football for Hope centres across Africa.
Each centre will feature a mini-pitch along with classrooms and health care facilities, providing access to counselling, health and educational services.
Football for Hope is a strategic partnership between the world soccer governing body and streetfootballworld, a worldwide network of nongovernmental bodies that develop projects with soccer as a common denominator.
Its aim is to bring together, support, advise and strengthen sustainable social and human development programmes.
It covers the areas of peace promotion, children's rights and education, health promotion, anti-discrimination, social integration and the environment.
These programmes are aimed at children and youth, and use football as an instrument to promote participation and dialogue.

During the World Cup, 32 teams from across the globe will battle it out in Alexandra in a soccer festival for boys and girls between the ages of 15 and 18.
