Kaizer Chiefs' acrobatic goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune stood out again this week when he collected four awards at a club function held at Theatre on the Track in Kyalami.

Khune won the players' player of the year, the player of the year, website player of the year and the Amakhosi readers' choice awards.

The Chiefs custodian, who was ecstatic, said he was mystified at having won the four awards because competition among the players was very tough.

He said all the players did their best to retain their positions in the first team.

"I didn't expect to win the most awards. I was astonished and thought I was dreaming when I was called to the podium four times. But I thank my teammates as well as people who have been encouraging me in my career."

Midfielder Thabo Mooki, the longest-serving player at Amakhosi, scooped the best dressed player and the chairman's special award.

Other winners were striker Mabhuti Khenyeza, who walked away with goal of the year and top goal scorer, and defender Jimmy Tau who received the fair play award.

Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung congratulated the team and Khune in particular for his outstanding performance.

He said Mooki joined the club on April Fool's Day in 1993 and had shown dedication and loyalty to the club.

He praised the Premier Soccer League's executive for having negotiated phenomenal sponsorships as well as the introduction of the new broadcast deal.

"Our league now ranks in the top 10 leagues of the world. Thanks must go to the PSL and the negotiating team for their hard work. A special thanks must go to our [PSL] chairman Irvin Khoza who was very instrumental in these negotiations," he said.
