A late onslaught by Junior Spinners could not save them from a narrow 4-3 defeat to Eveready Spurs in the Coca-Cola Shanduka competition in KwaThema at the weekend.

Spinners were trailing 2-0 to Spurs at the break but they came out firing in the second spell to take a 3-2 lead.

Spurs netted three goals with no response from Spinners - through Thabiso Maphuruma's brace in the 50th and 53rd minutes and Siyabonga Dlwathi in the 76th minute.

Spinners never despaired and instead showed character and managed to equalise through Nigel Qulazi in the 84th minute from the penalty spot.

Three minutes later Tumelo Moshe put the result beyond doubt with a fierce shot to make the final score 4-3 in favour of Spurs.

Spurs, who were all over their opponents in the first half, had taken the lead through Qulazi in the 12th and Samuel Maramba in the 26th minute.

In another game, East Rand and Disco Birds shared the spoils when they played to a 1-1 draw.

Other results: East Rand United 1, Epsilon 1; Nigel Stars 4, City Stars 0.
