A 32-year-old man was arrested for perjury and defeating the ends of justice after he reported his car stolen when he had in fact forgotten what had happened to it, Johannesburg police said yesterday.

"Police traced the vehicle to Midrand and questioned the man found driving it. He told the police that his friend [the 32-year-old] was drunk, that is why he took the car," said Captain Jethro Mtshali.

The man had allegedly reported that two armed men had hijacked his BMW on Friday. - Sapa
