ANC president Jacob Zuma has vowed that the party will not keep quiet when things go wrong in Zimbabwe because it might be regarded as an accomplice in the situation.
He told delegates at the ANC Youth League's congress in Johannesburg yesterday that ANC leaders like Pixley ka Seme, at a young age of 25, stood for African regeneration before anyone else thought about the issue.
"Let us honour his memory and legacy by ensuring that South Africa is a country which is tolerant of all Africans from the continent and the diaspora. Let us stand firm against xenophobic tendencies.
"That is why we should not keep quiet when things go wrong in Zimbabwe, as we might be regarded as accomplices," he said.
Zuma repeated his remarks when he lambasted Zimbabwe at the Black Management Forum dinner at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on Friday.
Addressing more than 1000 business guests who included BMF's investors Absa and Mercedes Benz, Zuma said the Southern African Development Community (SADC) had a crisis in its hands regarding Zimbabwe.
"The situation is out of control in Zimbabwe. Nothing short of a negotiated political arrangement will get Zimbabwe out of the conflict it has been plunged into. It is an extremely difficult and distressing situation for all, and we look to SADC to help find a speedy solution," he said.
