North West education officials were left speechless this week when 310 matric pupils from Khutsong, Carletonville, demanded to be taken to a winter camp.
They had not arrived for a meeting organised for last Sunday to make plans to prepare for final examinations at a camp .
But on Wednesday the pupils turned up at the Carletonville police station.
"I got a call from one of the local Cosas leaders that the pupils were at the Carletonville police station and wanted to go and prepare for their matric examinations," said a surprised Shadrack Mvula, acting manager of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda district.
Buses will take them to a camp in Potchefstroom, North West, today.
He said some of the pupils had been reluctant to come for fear of being intimidated.
Cosas leader Given Mashapo said they had gone on a door-to-door campaign on Sunday and Monday to ask pupils to converge on the police station and be ready for the camp.
"We are going to study for our examinations," Mashapo said.
Mvula said plans had been finalised to take the pupils to a winter camp in Potchefstroom.
High school pupils from Badirile, Relebogile and Tswasongu - the high schools in Khutsong - have been boycotting classes for the past two weeks.
They went on strike when 23 pupils from Badirile were demoted by the North West department of education after they promoted themselves.
