Due to the success of last year's Telkom Charity Cup, the North West province is excited at hosting the event again and has put aside R1 million to ensure that this year's spectacle is even more successful.

This one-day tournament featuring four Premiership teams will be played at the Mmabatho Stadium in Mafikeng for the second year running on August 2.

The North West provincial government is also confident that the event will leave a lasting legacy among the people of Mafikeng and the province.

North West Premier Edna Molewa expressed confidence that the area can successfully accommodate the thousands of soccer enthusiasts who will flock to the province for this event.

"We are confident that there will be no person who will say there was a shortage of accommodation during their stay here.

"There are about 89 bed-and-breakfast homesteads and guesthouses, of which most of them have been approved and accredited by the South African Grading Council, under particular hospitality quotas," she said.

"This tournament comes at a time when we are happy to be one of the host provinces of the 2010 Fifa World Cup and it will set us above many to host a successful tournament.

"We also see this as a critical catalyst in the development of our tourism sector, which is very central in our Provincial Government Development Strategy (PGDS)," she said.

As far as the votes were concerned, Orlando Pirates were still maintaining their lead on 4942, with Mamelodi Sundowns second (4866), Kaizer Chiefs third (4570), Bloemfontein Celtic fourth (4317), AmaZulu fifth (3124) and Moroka Swallows sixth with 342 votes.
