Metro FM marketing manager Olwethu Hoyana was fired by the SA Broadcasting Corporation yesterday.

This follows a threemonth-long investigation into what the broadcaster referred to as "serious allegations of misconduct".

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago confirmed that Hoyana was found guilty of dishonesty and contravening the SABC electronic policy and dismissed.

But he refused to divulge any further details about the case, saying it was a private matter between the broadcaster and Hoyana.

"I cannot give any further information about what he did and when," he said. "It is against our code of conduct to divulge such information, and also, Hoyana has indicated that he wants to appeal the decision."

When approached for comment Hoyana said: "At the moment I don't want to talk about the issue since I plan to appeal."

Hoyana was appointed marketing manager in May last year.

Kganyago said Metro FM has appointed Kina Nhlengethwa as acting marketing manager pending completion of the appeal.

Hoyana joined Metro FM from the National Lottery, where he was brand manager for SportStake.

Boasting a diploma in business management, Hoyana has also worked for Cadbury-Schweppes as a representative before moving on to British American Tobacco and later Nestle SA.
