Exciting woman golfer Makhali Jamnda saw her dreams come true recently when she won the yearly Mayoral Golf Day at the Benoni Lake, beating a field of 172 golfers.

Jamnda, who is a member of the Parkview Golf Club, said she knew she would triumph after practising hard that week.

"I was confident that I would be the overall winner because I had programmed myself the night before the event.

"I was focused and I played extremely well from first hole right up to the last. Even when I was leading I was not intimidated," she said.

Jamnda, who was playing in this tournament for the fourth year, said she knew her dream would come true.

The tournament is used to raise funds and is contested by gofers representing different companies.

Ekurhuleni Mayor Duma Nkosi said: "The enthusiasm shown by our partners, who have realised the value of partnering with our vision of ensuring that our young people's interests towards 2010 development is maintained, is encouraging.

"It is such partnerships that can ensure sport development within Ekurhuleni communities and this is greatly appreciated."

He said for the next two years money received from the golf day would go towards soccer development in the build-up to the 2010 World Cup.

In 2003 the money (R285000) went to the Falcons women's ruby team; in 2004, R334 210 went to sports development; in 2005, R424 000 went to internships; in 2006 the performing arts got R442000; and last year R638000 went to soccer development.
