Kaizer Chiefs have withdrawn their under-15 squad from the Manchester United Under-15 Nike Cup in order for the club to verify the credentials and ages of all players registered in their programme.

Chiefs were part of the 16 teams due to take part in the yearly competition that kicks off tomorrow at the Safa Development Centre in Klipspruit, Soweto.

The finals will be played on Monday and the winners will represent the country at a tournament in Manchester, England.

According to the Chiefs website, the team's withdrawal follows a stringent internal review process of the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Programme (KCYDP). Management took a moral decision to skip the tournament to verify the credentials of all players registered in this programme.

In past years, tournaments have been riddled with age cheats and Chiefs deemed it necessary to prevent players from taking part after suspecting foul play.

Management is involved in re-engineering its development structures and is focused on implementing stricter recruitment policies.

They are committed to Fifa's spirit of fair play and promise to return to the competition after the review.

Chiefs have been replaced by Marks Park Rangers.

Other participating teams are Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows, Ajax Cape Town, Lamontville Golden Arrows, SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, School of Excellence, Mogale City FC, Wattville Manchester United, Harmony Academy, Africa Sport, Tuks Pretoria, Balfour Alexander FC, Dlamini XI and Bidvest Wits.
