The National Democratic Convention (Nadeco) has called on the ANC to intervene in the "demarcation fiasco" affecting the towns of Matatiele in KwaZulu-Natal and Khutsong in Gauteng before next year's national election.

Nadeco has called for the demarcation process to be stalled, saying it was disappointed with the manner in which the ANC had handled the "crises".

The party yesterday urged the government and the new ANC leadership to resolve the demarcation issue in the two towns immediately.

Spokesman Siphiwe Gamede said recent riots over the demarcation had affected service delivery and education.

He said the majority of Khutsong residents preferred to remain in Gauteng rather than North West and that most of the residents in Matatiele-Maluti wanted to stay in KwaZulu-Natal than to be incorporated into Eastern Cape.
