The Kay Motsepe Cup climbs the final step towards the national championships when KwaZulu-Natal holds its provincial finals in Pietermaritzburg tomorrow.

This is the last provincial championships ahead of the national one.

Four teams will battle it out for a place in the national playoffs scheduled for July 9 to 12 in Mamelodi, Pretoria.

Mehlokazulu from Umgungundlovo district will enter the race as hot favourites, based on the fact that they have represented the province nationally numerous times.

The other three schools are Silindokuhle from Ukhahlamba, Ezibukweni from Zululand and Ilanga from Ethekwini district.

"Everything is in place for the event and we are confident that the schools will bring in proper documentation for the sake of the pupils," Sbusiso Mavimbela, provincial coordinator said.

The provincial winners will join Sozama from Mpumalanga, Cloetesville from the Western Cape, SA van Wyk from Northern Cape, Michael Modisakeng from the North West, Tshikanoshi from Limpopo, Meadowlands from Gauteng and Harmony from Free State in the national playoffs.

"We are satisfied with the way the provinces are honouring their programmes," said Themba Tshabalala, tournament coordinator.

"Looking at the results and seeing the surprises, with underdogs kicking out favourites, the national championships are expected to be closely contested."
