Limpopo Development (LimDev) has committed itself to the development of softball in the province.

They made the commitment after they revealed yesterday that they will renew their sponsorship of Limpopo Softball Association (LSA).

The current deal, worth R 1,2 million, which was only aimed at the Super League, was clinched two seasons ago and expires at the end of this season.

Stan Mathabatha, the parastatal's managing director, yesterday said that their mission was to launch an ambitious drive that will also benefit pupils from next year.

"We will extend our relationship with LSA in the coming seasons. Their good administration, commitment and discipline have left us with no alternative but to continue with our sponsorship," Mathabatha said.

But he said the parastatal was concerned about the lack of discipline among players.

"We resolved to expand our sponsorship to schools sports, softball in particular, in the deep rural areas of the province, through a sponsored tournament. Our mission is to ensure that softball is popularised in all areas of the province as is happening with the LSA," Mathabatha, emphasised.

"We will also consider roping in school soccer and netball. Our relationship with the sports people has assisted in closing the gap between us and the community."
