Inexcusable

Too often political organisations organise marches to highlight pertinent issues and then such processions degenerate into uncivil incidents.

Too often political organisations organise marches to highlight pertinent issues and then such processions degenerate into uncivil incidents.

Unfortunately, this tends to alienate public sympathy to the cause propagated by the organisers of these processions rather than elicit support.

Thuggery under the guise of public causes is as inexcusable as organisers' inertia and indifference to the wilful destruction of public property by their members.

It is unfortunate that a march in Durban at the weekend by the Inkatha Freedom Party was characterised by mayhem. We hope the police probe to unravel the real culprits behind the unruly scenes during the march will face the full force of the law.
