Didier Drogba, one of the world's most popular soccer stars, is expected to visit our shores in September when Ivory Coast take on Bafana Bafana.

The soccer authorities in Ivory Coast have approached the South African Football Association to play a friendly against the 2010 World Cup hosts.

The Elephants will be in southern Africa in the first week of September for a World Cup-Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mozambique.

Mozambique welcome Ivory Coast in Maputo on September 5 in a game the hosts have to win to remain in the race.

Bafana Bafana will also be in action on the same weekend, playing against Nigeria in the same competition at a venue still to be announced.

The Ivorians want to play against Bafana Bafana - who have a phobia for scoring goals - on September 9, which will also be a Fifa date.

Ivory Coast lead their group with eight points from four games, including two draws against Botswana (1-1) and Madagascar (0-0).

Botswana are second on the log with five points, with Mozambique third on four points and Madagascar fourth on three points.

Raymond Hack, Safa chief executive, yesterday confirmed the game against the Elephants.

"I can confirm that we are talking about that match, we have written a letter to them [Ivory Coast] regarding that match," he said.

"We have also written to Cameroon, they are still to come back to us. We will be able to make an announcement very soon."

Hack, who is attending the Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland, also confirmed the game against the Socceroos of Australia in London next month.

"We are playing against Australia on August 19, we are just waiting for confirmation from the English Football Association."

Sipho Nkumane, Bafana Bafana manager, said the venue for the game against Nigeria will be announced next week. With most venues being upgraded for the World Cup, the match is likely to go to Kings Park or Johannesburg Stadium.
