l Tackle just one issue. For example, if your teen spends too much time online, stick to that topic. Don't bring up TV or phone use.

l Explain, don't blame. "Computer games are taking away from homework and family time. We need to change that."

l Consider your teen's ideas. "What do you think would be fair? Let's brainstorm about a good schedule."
