Relegated Jomo Cosmos' under-17 team has pulled out of this year's Engen KO Challenge and were replaced by Mondeor Meteors.

This was confirmed yesterday by Floyd Mogale, director of youth of the hosts Bidvest Wits, at the launch of the yearly tournament at Wits University.

Mogale said Cosmos' juniors withdrew from the development competition at the eleventh hour on Friday but no reason was given.

"It is unfortunate a team of Cosmos' calibre won't be taking part this year, but we hope the inclusion of Meteors will add value to the tournament," said Mogale.

Roy Matthews, Cosmos' Academy manager, retorted: "We have no under-17 squad at the moment."

Sixteen teams, including defending champions Orlando Pirates, will contest the prestigious tournament from July 11 to 13 at Marks Parks.

The draw:

Group A: SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits, Unioa and Mondeor Meteors.

Group B: Alex Sheffield, Mogale City, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kempton Park.

Group C: Moroka Swallows, University of Pretoria, School of Excellence and Africa Sport Youth Academy.

Group D: Orlando Pirates, Southdowns, Soweto Select X1 and Kaizer Chiefs.
