War talk harms us all

If you are a South African with any grey matter between your ears, you should know by now that it is time to get off your butt.

If you are a South African with any grey matter between your ears, you should know by now that it is time to get off your butt.

You cannot be continuously bombarded with the "threat to kill for Zuma" without realising the country is spiralling towards a lawlessness we have never experienced hitherto.

If you thought this threat by ANC Youth League president and warmonger Julius Malema was a rush of blood to the head then think again.

On Saturday, it was Cosatu secretary general Zwelinzima Vavi who roared "Viva" to the call to arms Malema made at the June 16 commemoration service in the Free State.

"Because Jacob Zuma is one of us, and he is one of our leaders, for him we are prepared to lay [down] our lives and to shoot and kill," Vavi said to applause and cheering.

Yesterday, SACP stalwart Blade Nzimande added his voice to these chilling messages, warning that Pietermaritzburg will be made ungovernable when ANC president Jacob Zuma appears in court charged with fraud and corruption.

It is incumbent upon South Africans to call for a stop to all these calls for anarchy.

Most importantly, Zuma must now firmly warn his comrades against the war talk.

Lest Alan Paton's warning in Cry, the Beloved Country come back to haunt us.
